LYNNFIELD – The Lynnfield Center Water District Board of Commissioners invites the community to attend a Capital Project Update meeting to learn more about the District’s ongoing initiatives.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 26, at 6 p.m. at the Al Merritt Center, 600 Market St.
The public will hear presentations from District staff, CDM/Smith, Weston & Sampson, and the Town of Wakefield about the following projects:
Greensand Filtration Plant at Glen Drive: District voters approved construction of a greensand filter treatment plant at the Glen Drive station to reduce iron and manganese levels and address ongoing issues with water taste, color and odor. This update will address progress with the plant design, upcoming milestones and project schedule.
Wakefield Interconnect and Interbasin Permit: District voters have approved connecting the District system with the Town of Wakefield’s water supply at Main Street and Bay State Road to begin diversifying its water sources by using this connection to provide Massachusetts Water Resources Authority water into the system. The meeting will update how the various phases of this project, both infrastructure upgrades and the various layers of permitting amongst state and local authorities, are progressing.
Short Term and Long Term PFAS Strategies: The public will be updated on the District’s aggressive efforts to reduce levels of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), which are man-made and do not break down quickly. Short Term Plans are currently being put in place at Station 2, Main Street, and long term plans are being developed, some of which may overlap with the projects above.
“District staff have been working diligently with our consultants to move these projects forward, and now also layer in PFAS impacts,” Board Chair Jack Adelson said. “We invite the community to attend and learn more about where the District Capital Plan is currently at.”
Meeting agendas are posted at least 48 hours in advance at https://lcwd.us/. This presentation will also be recorded and posted to the District website for viewing.
