CANTON — Chief Charles Doody is pleased to announce that two firefighters graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA) last week.
Firefighter/Paramedic Daniel Harris and Firefighter/EMT Matthew Kelly were among the 16 firefighters from 11 fire departments to graduate from the Academy’s Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program Class #BW20. Firefighter Harris and Firefighter Kelly completed their 10-week recruit training program at the Bridgewater Training Academy on Friday, June 24.
Firefighters Harris and Kelly joined their respective Canton Fire Groups on Monday, June 27.
“On behalf of the Canton Fire Department, we would like to congratulate Firefighters Harris and Kelly on their graduation and successful completion of this rigorous training,” Chief Doody said. “This training solidifies their commitment to ensuring our community members are provided with the best possible service, and we wish them the best of luck as they begin their careers with the Canton Fire Department.”
The program teaches the essentials of fire and non-fire conditions, life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation and fire attack. Firefighters Harris and Kelly are now certified at the level of Firefighter I and II and in hazardous material operation.
“First responders are on the frontlines protecting their communities, and these newest firefighters are needed now more than ever,” said State Fire Marshal Ostroskey. “The rigorous professional training they’ve received provides them with the physical, mental, and technical skills to perform their jobs effectively and safely.”
The other 14 graduates represent the fire departments of Attleboro, Brewster, Cambridge, Foxborough, Hull, Orleans, Sandwich, Walpole, Waltham and Yarmouth.
