Agency is Hopeful Others Will Come Forward if They’ve Survived a Similar Incident, Regardless of How Much Time has Passed
STONEHAM — Chief James McIntyre reports that the offender in a child rape case has been sentenced to 10 years to 10 years and one day in state prison.
Stoneham Police began investigating in April 2017 after a friend of a child rape survivor reported the incident. Through their investigation, Detective Sgt. Robert Kennedy and Detective Stephen Carroll earned the trust of the survivor, who was 15 at the time of the assaults in 2013 and 19 when they were reported. Their work led to the successful prosecution of DEIVISSON GOUTART, OF WAKEFIELD.
GOUTART was convicted by a jury of two counts of Aggravated Rape of a Child and two counts of Rape of a Child by Force. Through their investigation, Detectives Kennedy and Carroll determined that the crimes occurred in Watertown, though they continued to work closely on the case through its eventual resolution this week.
“This resolution is an important reminder that even if years have passed, survivors can still come forward and see to it that these crimes are successfully prosecuted and that justice is ultimately served,” Chief McIntyre said. “I want to thank Detectives Kennedy and Carroll, as well as our partners with the Watertown Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office for their commitment to this case.”
