NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH – Principal Peter Haviland is pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick Marum as North Attleborough High School’s new Band Director.
Marum was chosen as NAHS Band Director following the appointment of longtime North Attleborough High School music teacher and band director Thomas Rizzo as Assistant Principal of NAHS this past spring. He spent the last two years teaching instrumental and general music at the Interdistrict School for Arts and Communication in New London, Connecticut.
Marum received his undergraduate degree in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. While a student, he participated in ensembles such as chapel jazz, trumpet ensemble, chamber groups, symphony band, wind ensemble, and the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band (UMMB). His experience in these various ensembles helped to form his holistic approach to teaching music.
Marum served as a drum major for the UMMB and was a member of the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy IMPACT team. He also brought back and taught the Mace Techniques class at UMass after a hiatus of several years.
In addition to teaching music, Marum coached baseball at Norwich Free Academy for the past two seasons, and loves to spend time outside at beaches, on trails, or anywhere nature can be found. His love of sports includes baseball, football, basketball and golf.
“I’m so excited for the opportunity to work with the students and staff here in North Attleborough,” Marum said. “From the current staff, former students turned friends, and everyone else I’ve met from the school system, I’ve felt at home from the very beginning. I’m looking forward to continuing to build on the already amazing music program here and create lasting relationships within the community.”
Marum’s appointment is effective July 1.
“Patrick will undoubtedly have a positive impact on NAHS’ music program and its students as a result of his years of experience and passion for music and education,” Principal Haviland said. “We are so fortunate to have Patrick joining our team here at NAHS and we are excited to formally welcome him to our school community this fall.”
