EASTON — Chief Justin Alexander is pleased to share that over 20 members of the Easton Fire Department were recognized at a ceremony on Tuesday, June 21.
Numerous firefighters were recognized with awards and honored for their years of service. The department also welcomed two new firefighters and celebrated a promotion.
Chief Alexander provided the ceremony’s opening remarks. Easton Select Board Chair Dottie Fulginiti, State Sen. Walter Timilty and State Rep. Carol Doherty also provided remarks, and Sen. Timilty and Rep. Doherty presented various citations on behalf of the Massachusetts State Senate and House of Representatives.
Also in attendance were Town Administrator Connor Read and Assistant Town Administrator Michael Blanchard, and Select Board Vice Chair Craig Barger and Member Jennifer Stacy.
“It’s important for us to recognize the dedication and exceptional work of our firefighters and all the ways they go above and beyond in their service to the community and in their support of each other,” Chief Alexander said. “I would like to welcome our new firefighters and congratulate all of our members who were recognized, as well as thank our local and state officials who attended and helped us show our appreciation for our firefighters.”
Excellence in Leadership Award
Capt. Lawrence Blye was presented an Excellence in Leadership Award by Deputy Chief Jon Carroll, recognizing his actions and decision making while commanding a challenging fire at a home during a blizzard earlier this year, which likely saved the home.
Solidarity Award
A Solidarity Award was presented to Firefighter Gordon Crawford by Chief Alexander. Firefighter Crawford learned that a fellow firefighter was out of much-needed baby formula for his daughter and a large delivery of formula had been stolen from the family’s doorstep. This was a hard time for the family as the daughter was in and out of the hospital for medical issues and struggling to eat, and the baby formula shortages became a serious issue for the family.
Firefighter Crawford and his wife, Amanda, took it upon themselves to locate the baby formula the family required, going out to collect as much as possible and delivering it to their home.
Firefighter Crawford’s actions were in the spirit and tradition of the fire service to always take care of each other and each others’ families.
New Appointments
Capt. Tim Vamosi was promoted to the rank of captain. Vamosi joined the Easton Fire Department in 2004. He serves as the town’s EMS/MIH/Public Health Officer managing the Easton Community Health and Paramedicine program.
Firefighter Paul Nolan was sworn into his role with the department after transferring from the Norwell Fire Department. He also has extensive paramedic experience within the Brockton 911 system.
Firefighter William Mosher was sworn into his role with the department after working within the Brockton 911 system as an EMT. He also has experience as an on-call firefighter for the Town of Plainville.
