READING — Police Chief David Clark and Fire Chief Gregory Burns report that the Reading Police and Fire Departments are actively responding to a burst pipe in a senior living facility that has forced the evacuation of about 66 senior residents.

On Monday, June 27, at approximately 11:53 a.m., Reading Police and Fire Departments received a report that a pipe burst and sent water cascading into an electrical box at The Residence at Pearl Street, an assisted living and memory care community at 75 Pearl St.

There are no reported injuries, but the incident forced power to the building to be cut. As a result, the process of evacuating 66 residents is ongoing as of 5:30 p.m.

The Residence at Pearl Street is notifying the family members of residents and working to find alternative accommodations for residents who are not being picked up by family members.

The evacuation is being conducted methodically to ensure the continued safety of residents. There is no ongoing danger to residents of the building.

Family members of residents can call 617-596-5141 for information about their loved ones.
