CANTON — The Executive Board of the Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement (MAWLE) is pleased to report on a successful training session held recently.

On Thursday, June 16, MAWLE, in collaboration with the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) Training Division, hosted the “Female Enforcers” training.

Approximately 70 women in law enforcement — from agencies across the state — attended the day-long training at the Bank of Canton Headquarters.

The training was delivered by Calibre Press’ Deputy Chief (Ret.) Cyndy Velazquez, who was a suburban Chicago police officer for more than 30 years.

The session focused on battling bias, promotion and advancing to the next level, leadership and mentoring, and tactics training and equipment. During one activity, attendees write down their short- and long-term goals, as well as what would get in their way with the idea that recognizing obstacles to your goals will help you to overcome them.

Deputy Chief Velazquez also shared her career background and achievements with the group.

“We were excited to see such a great representation of women from agencies across the state. These are important topics for female officers, and we were pleased to be able to put on this training,” said MAWLE Vice President Erin Carcia. “We would like to thank the MPTC and Calibre Press for working with us on the training, and Deputy Chief Velazquez for coming to share these lessons and her experiences with the attendees.”
