CANTON — Superintendent Derek Folan and Principal Jeff Sperling are pleased to announce that the Canton High School Tri-M Chapter 4088 has been named the winner of the 2021-2022 State Tri-M Chapter of the Year Award for Massachusetts.
Tri-M welcomes student musicians in grades 6 through 12. Currently, there are over 2,100 chapters in all 50 states, involving more than 84,000 students. The Tri-M Music Honor Society focuses on creating future leaders in music education and music advocacy, and is part of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), which is the only music honor society for high school students in the country.
The Canton High School Tri-M Chapter 4088 consists of 42 members from grades 9-12. The group spends time spreading music to the community, including playing and singing at events throughout the year such as holiday caroling, the Black History Month celebration, Juneteenth, morning music for CHS, and listening lunches. The chapter’s biggest event this year was the Valentines Music night.
For being named 2021-2022 State Tri-M Chapter of the Year, the chapter will be awarded a banner that will be hung in the school for all to see.
This is the first time the CHS Tri-M Chapter has received this award.
“This is a tremendous honor for a very deserving group of students,” Superintendent Folan said. “We would especially like to recognize 2021-2022 chapter officers Stella Lempert, Harrison Ouellette, Christopher Pho, Olivia Maloney, Adam Clyve and Isabelle Crawford, as well as chapter advisor Catherine Eckersley and all of the CPS performing arts staff. Our Tri-M music students not only show a terrific commitment and dedication to their musical studies but also make the greater Canton community a better place.”
