DIGHTON — The Dighton Board of Selectmen, together with Town Administrator Michael Mullen, Jr., are pleased to announce that Dighton Town Accountant Janelle Vining has met the requirements to become a Certified Government Accountant (CGA) by the Massachusetts Municipal Auditors’ and Accountants’ Association (MAAA).
Town Accountant Vining, a Dighton resident and Certified Public Accountant (CPA), was hired by the Town in July 2021. Since joining the town, she completed coursework and was one of approximately 25% of applicants who passed two separate legal and practical examinations required by the MAAA for government accountant certification earlier this spring. It traditionally takes new municipal accountants approximately three years to earn the certification, however, Vining became certified in less than one year as Dighton’s Town Accountant.
Vining was recognized for earning her certification at MAAA’s Annual Meeting held on June 13 in South Yarmouth.
“Dighton is tremendously blessed to have Janelle serving as our Town Accountant,” said Town Administrator Mullen. “Janelle has brought a real focus for financial planning and leadership to Dighton’s financial team. I join the Board of Selectmen in offering to her our sincere congratulations.”
As Town Accountant, Vining has become an integral part of Dighton’s financial team responsible for monitoring, directing and auditing the town’s financial and accounting system, including maintaining the fiscal records and systems of the town. She also serves as a member of the town’s newly re-established Capital Outlay Committee.
Vining has over a decade of accounting experience, most recently serving as an Audit Manager at Farmer & First, P.C, CPA’s. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Roger Williams University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
