BERKLEY — Chief Scott Fournier, on behalf of Berkley Fire Rescue, would like to invite community members to the department’s Annual Father’s Day Parade and Fire Muster this Sunday.
WHEN:
The Annual Father’s Day Parade and Fire Muster will take place this Sunday, June 19. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. with the fire muster to follow at 1 p.m.
WHERE:
The parade will begin at Berkley Fire Station 2, 6 Grove St., and travel throughout the town to the Town Common.
The fire muster will take place at the Town Common.
WHAT:
The annual Father’s Day parade and fire muster have been a tradition for the past four decades. Berkley has held parades and musters since the 1960s, but it became an annual Father’s Day event in 1981.
On Sunday, members of Berkley Fire Rescue and surrounding departments will drive fire apparatus from Station 2 across town. Along the parade route, firefighters and spectators will soak each other with balloons and water cannons per parade tradition.
Following the parade, Berkley Fire Rescue will host its fire muster. The fire muster consists of competitive firefighter games and surrounding towns also create teams to participate.
Games include dry hose lay, wet hose lay, ladder climb and a midnight alarm. The midnight alarm is an activity that simulates getting out of bed, responding to a fire scene and performing a rescue.
The town that is crowned the winner of the fire muster receives bragging rights until the following year. Awards for the parade will also be given to those who traveled the farthest, had the best appearing engine, best appearing aerial ladder and best appearing apparatus.
“We are extremely pleased to once again be hosting our Annual Fire Muster after it was canceled for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Chief Fournier said. “The fire muster is a tradition not only for our area fire personnel but for our community as well and we greatly look forward to once again celebrating alongside our community members this weekend. We encourage all to attend.”
