Baseball Team Travels to Second-Seeded Georgetown Tomorrow For Elite 8 Matchup
BOURNE — After a strong finish to the 2022 regular season, the Bourne High School Canalman athletics teams have had a strong showing thus far in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association spring tournament.
Five BHS teams finished in the top 30 of the MIAA end-of-season power rankings this spring en route to the statewide tournament.
The BHS baseball team, which ended the regular season ranked 7 in Div. 5, advanced to the MIAA Elite 8 with an impressive shutout victory over Millis 10-0 before most recently defeating Granby in a close 8-7 game.
The team is set to play second-seeded Georgetown on the road this Saturday, June 11 at 3 p.m.
Girls tennis, which ended the regular season ranked 11 in Div. 4, shut out Westport this week 5-0 before dropping a tight match 3-2 to Manchester Essex to close out their season.
Softball, which ended the regular season ranked 18 in Div. 5, defeated Lee on the road earlier this week 8-7 in an extra innings thriller before falling to perennial softball power Turners Falls 7-1 later in the week.
Boys tennis, which ended the regular season ranked 21 in Div. 4, lost a close match to Rockland 3-2 in their tournament opener.
Girls lacrosse, which ended the regular season ranked 28 in Div. 4, defeated Upper Cape Cod Tech 15-7 in their preliminary opener before losing to Ipswich 15-1 last night on the road.
“Our students have excelled in spring athletics all season and we are extremely proud of their performances so far in the MIAA tournament,” Athletic Director Scott Ashworth said. “They have also shown a great deal of professionalism and sportsmanship on and off the field and have represented their school and their community extremely well. We wish the baseball team well tomorrow in their matchup against a very strong Georgetown team.”
