TAUNTON — Superintendent John Cabral and Principal Scott Holcomb would like to congratulate Taunton High School’s Class of 2022 on their graduation this past weekend.
The graduation ceremony took place Saturday, June 4, at the Joseph Rabouin Field House in Taunton.
“With every historic moment we’ve endured and every drastic social change we’ve adjusted to these past years, I hope you took more from this school than just what you learned from your textbooks,” said Senior Class President Emma Carvalho. “I hope that you will choose to face each day with optimism, fearlessness, and grit. Let us all be prepared for what lies in our paths (good, bad, or ugly), and let us all be ready to exhibit the power and perseverance we’ve gained from our time here at Taunton High School.”
The ceremony included a welcome address from Principal Holcomb; a valedictorian address from Kyanna Barros; a salutatorian address from Samuel Schumacher; and an address from Senior Class President Emma Carvalho.
Diplomas were awarded at the ceremony by Assistant Principal Kristen Keenan and Associate Principals Jason Torres, Jaimie Pereira and Joseph Pomfret.
“I urge all of you in whatever it is you pursue in the future, whether it be college, trade school, the military, or the workforce, to remember balance. Don’t work yourself into a complete state of exhaustion,” said Valedictorian Barros. “Reserve time for your responsibilities, but match that with time for you. Take care of yourself. That means keep tabs on your mental, emotional, and physical health. Life is a balancing act, and those who take care of themselves are the ones who actually live it to the fullest.”
Also in attendance were Taunton Mayor Shaunna O’Connell, Chairperson of the Taunton School Committee Dr. Gregory DeMelo, and Chairperson of the High School Sub-Committee Nathan Pawlowski. Members of the Taunton School Committee Christine Fagan (Secretary), Gill Enos, Jordan H.F. Fiore, Derek George, Louis Loura and Steven Vieira were also in attendance. Additionally, Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Curriculum and Instruction Christopher Baratta and Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Finance and Operations Brenda Moynihan attended.
Addresses were also made by Mayor O’Connell, Superintendent Cabral, and Chairman DeMelo. Mayor O’Connell spoke about the importance of being gracious. Superintendent Cabral spoke about being unafraid to take the road less traveled. Chairman DeMelo spoke about lifelong learning.
“Today, we are filled with pride as we look back at your 12 years of hard work and achievement as you walk across the stage to get your diploma, and we look forward to the endless opportunity the future holds for you,” said Mayor O’Connell. “And moms and dads, family, and friends, teachers, staff, and administration, you have done an amazing job because our students don’t get here without your love, your support, and your guidance.”
Added Superintendent John Cabral, “As our students embark on their post-high school journey, we wish them all the best and success in their future endeavors. Each student will have the opportunity to carve their own path and we hope that with the tools they learned at Taunton High School they will leave a positive impact on the world. On behalf of the school community, congratulations Class of 2022.”
