At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, Taunton Police were dispatched to 12 Chandler Ave. for a report of an attempted armed robbery.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victims, a 24-year-old Norton woman and a 21-year-old Mansfield woman. The victims told police that they were sitting outside on the steps of the entrance to the apartment complex when a man approached them. The man allegedly demanded them to empty their pockets and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at their faces.
During the preliminary investigation, responding officers learned that a single shot had been fired into the sky before the man, later identified as GRIGSBY, allegedly fled the scene on foot.
No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.
While officers were interviewing the victims, a Taunton Police Officer radioed that they located a man that matched the description given to them by the victims. The officer observed GRIGSBY running into the woods in the area of 100 Danforth St.
Several officers soon arrived on scene to establish a perimeter of the wooded area and search for GRIGSBY, including officers from the Massachusetts State Police and Raynham Police K-9 Units.
While searching the woods in the area of Holyoke Street and Chester Street, a Taunton Officer located GRIGSBY in the woods. Officers lost sight of GRIGSBY before they could make contact with him but observed him running in the direction of Lynn Street.
A GRIGSBY was located underneath a car trailer near the woods on Lynn Street by a Raynham Police K-9. GRIGSBY was then taken into custody without further incident.
A 9mm shell casing was collected as evidence from the crime scene at the apartment complex. Officers also subsequently located a loaded 9mm handgun hidden under dirt near where GRIGSBY was found on Lynn Street.
Taunton Police would like to thank the responding agencies who helped to quickly locate and apprehend the suspect.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
