GLOUCESTER — Chief Edward Conley reports that the Gloucester Police Department responded Wednesday to a crash in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Washington Street.

On Wednesday, May 18, at approximately 12:44 p.m., Gloucester Police received a 911 call reporting a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the area of 130 Washington St.

Gloucester Police responded and located a Rockport resident, about 70 years old, suffering from injuries that appeared to be serious. That individual was treated at the scene by Gloucester Police and the Gloucester Fire Department, before being transported to a regional trauma center by a MedFlight helicopter.

The driver involved remained at the scene.

The crash is under investigation by Gloucester Police and the Essex District Attorney’s Office, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
