WOBURN – Woburn Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Crowley and Kennedy Middle School Assistant Principal Kevin Battle are pleased to share that English Learner (EL) students from Grades 4-12 attended two field trips during school vacation week.
Woburn Public Schools was awarded a grant from the Woburn Community Educational Foundation (WCEF) to fund district-wide art- and history-related field trips on non-school days for EL students.
“We feel fortunate that our English Learner students were able to experience these trips. I would like to thank WCEF for providing our students with the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom. These trips were not only educational, but fun, too, and our students truly enjoyed them,” said Assistant Principal Battle, who organized the field trips.
On Tuesday, April 19, approximately 50 students attended a field trip to the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Students explored the exhibits, including fossils, the art room, and the nature room, and learned about the world around them.
“What I found most amazing was the large mammals and the nature room,” fifth-grade student Giulia Moreira said.
Added fourth-grade student Kyla Sergi: “I liked the crystals and I loved the art room.”
On Thursday, April 21, approximately 25 students visited the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. Students visited the exhibit halls and worked on hands-on projects related to climate change and the environment. Students also had the opportunity to make fossil imprints.
“I liked the paintings and fashion design exhibit,” ninth-grade student Wemily Alana Oliveria De Almeida said.
