NAHANT — Fire Chief Austin Antrim and Police Chief Timothy Furlong report that the Nahant police officers and firefighters responded to a house fire on Thursday night.
At about 8:03 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, Nahant dispatch received a 9-1-1 call reporting a fire at 79 Wharf St. Arriving first, Nahant Police Officers in the area arrived first, and discovered flames coming from the roof at the rear of the 2 1/2-story single-family house.
Officers entered the house and determined no one was inside. Officers removed all family pets.
A working fire response was requested. That brought a full complement of Nahant firefighters and mutual aid from the Lynn Fire Department and Swampscott Fire Department to scene. Fire units worked together to bring the fire under control quickly. Assistance also was received from Atlantic Ambulance, and from the Marblehead Fire Department, which provided station coverage.
Fire damage was contained to the rear of the house. The house also suffered smoke and water damage.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Nahant Fire Department and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
