READING —  Deputy Chief Christine Amendola announces that the Reading Police Department arrested a man on Tuesday in connection with multiple vehicle break-ins since late March.

NEBUCHODONOZ SALOMON, AGE 25, OF WOBURN was arrested and charged with:

  • Breaking and Entering for a Misdemeanor
  • Breaking and Entering for a Misdemeanor (12 counts) (Preexisting Warrant)
  • Receiving Stolen Property
  • Credit Card Fraud Under $1,200
  • Malicious Destruction of Property

Additionally, SALOMON was wanted on an unrelated warrant for charges out of Woburn.

At about 12:20 a.m. today, Reading Police were dispatched to a Summer Avenue residence after a resident discovered their vehicle’s front passenger door was open. Upon arrival, officers determined that the suspect had entered the vehicle and gone through the glove compartment.

Officers were aware of several previous break-ins in the area, for which Reading Police had already obtained an arrest warrant for SALOMON as part of that ongoing investigation. Officers subsequently located a man on Kelch Road, who was later identified as SALOMON, and attempted to make contact with him before he fled on foot into a wooded area behind Longwood Road.

Officers remained in the area to search for him, while additional officers accompanied by members of the Woburn Police Department went to his known residence in Woburn. Officers located SALOMON inside the building, and he again fled on foot.

At approximately 1:21 a.m., officers responded to a report that an individual matching SALOMON’S description — wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and blue and black sneakers — was walking on Longwood Road. Upon arrival, SALOMON was no longer in the area but the responding officer observed a gray minivan with its rear passenger side sliding door open.

About an hour later, an officer on Woburn Street observed an individual matching the suspect’s description walking toward Sanborn Street. The officer observed the individual for a short time and positively identified them as SALOMON before attempting to make contact with them. SALOMON again fled on foot, running down Sanborn Street and onto Gould Street before entering the USPS parking lot on Haven Street.

At that time, a second officer arrived and was able to block SALOMON’S path forward. The second officer activated the lasers on his electronic control weapon and warned SALOMON he would deploy it unless he complied with officer commands. As a result, SALOMON was taken into custody without further incident.

Reading Police obtained the prior warrant for his arrest as part of an extensive ongoing investigation, through which detectives determined that SALOMON had utilized a credit card stolen from a vehicle break-in on March 23 to purchase a plane ticket. Additionally, SALOMON is charged with Malicious Destruction of Property in connection with his allegedly prying open a vehicle’s door on March 23.

“This arrest is the result of extensive and diligent investigative work by Detective Robert MacHugh, who successfully identified the suspect involved, and the great effort by Officers Brian Catanzano and Tim Barrett who identified and safely apprehended him,” Deputy Chief Amendola said. “Their work is a great example of both strong investigative efforts and de-escalation, which resulted in the safe apprehension this morning. I’d also like to thank our partners with the Woburn Police Department, as well as all of the Reading residents who contributed to this investigation, for their assistance.”

SALOMON was held without bail pending his arraignment, which is expected today in Woburn District Court.

Reading Police are continuing to investigate several additional motor vehicle break-ins reported over the last month. Deputy Chief Amendola would like to remind residents to lock their car doors and remove all valuables from their vehicles when leaving them unattended.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
