ARLINGTON — With Phase 1 of the Arlington High School Building Project complete, Superintendent Elizabeth C. Homan and Principal Matthew Janger invite the public to tour the new wings later this month.

WHEN

Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE

Arlington High School, 869 Massachusetts Avenue

WHAT

The public will have the chance to tour the wings built as part of Phase 1, which include the Performing Arts and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) wings, and the auditorium. The Performing Arts and STEAM wings opened to students on Feb. 28.

The new STEAM wing features 16 classrooms, 17 science labs, five visual art studios, three interdisciplinary maker spaces, a 120-seat Discourse Lab and numerous sustainability features, including two four-story lightwells. The Performing Arts wing contains band and chorus rooms, practice rooms and a digital production lab.

The 826-seat Auditorium with a 2,140-square-foot stage, green room and fly loft is anticipated to open later this week.

“The vision for a new building has been in the making for many years and it is very exciting to see the first phase of the project come to completion,” Principal Janger said. “We hope that the community will join us for a tour to see the many things that the new wings have to offer.”

Phase 2 is underway and includes the construction of a new Humanities wing, and District Administration and Preschool spaces. Phase 2 is expected to be completed by fall 2023.

The four-phase project is expected to be finished by May 2025.

“Thank you to the community for their support because without it, this project would not have been possible,” Superintendent Homan said. “We are looking forward to welcoming residents into our new spaces, which feature state-of-the-art equipment and facilities that will surely help our students thrive academically.”

Tours will begin and end at the Massachusetts Avenue lobby. Attendees are advised to park near the Massachusetts Avenue entrance. The rear entrance on Mill Brook Drive will not be open. Accessible parking is available on Schouler Court.

RSVP is encouraged, but not required. To RSVP, please click here.
