Bourne Public Schools Offering Summer Enrichment Programs for Students of All Ages

BOURNE -- From health and wellness exercises to learning the ins and outs of musical theater, students in the Bourne Public Schools will have a wide selection of enrichment programs to look forward to this summer.

BOURNE — From health and wellness exercises to learning the ins and outs of musical theater, students in the Bourne Public Schools will have a wide selection of enrichment programs to look forward to this summer. 

Programs will provide a safe, engaging and enriching environment for students of all ages, from incoming kindergarten students to those entering grade 12. 

“Our enrichment and academic programs give students the opportunity to expand their thinking and flex their creative muscles as well. These programs are a fun and engaging way for them to prepare for the new school year,” said Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou. 

Enrichment opportunities include the following:

BES and BIS

The Bournedale Elementary School and the Bourne Intermediate School will be offering the following programs, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon, from July 11-21:

BES Kindergarten Readiness

For all incoming kindergarten students. Price is $275. 

This enrichment course provides incoming kindergarten students with exposure to what they will experience when school begins in September. Each meeting of this course mirrors a “typical” day in kindergarten.

BES Amazing Me

For current K-2 students. Price is $275. 

This enrichment course provides students with a blend of indoor and outdoor wellness activities that will have students engaging in positive movement games, learning about healthy food choices and practicing relaxation.

BES Steam Over the Rainbow

For current K-2 students. Price is $275. 

This enrichment course provides students currently in grades K-2 with exposure to science, technology, engineering, art and math under the theme of “Summer Over the Rainbow.” Students will engage in a blend of indoor and outdoor experiences that mesh all five learning fields, resulting in fun experiences and tangible products.

BIS All That Jazz

For current Grade 3-5 students. Price is $275. 

In this enrichment course, students will play and sing a repertoire of jazz tunes. The students who are completing a year of instrumental study in grade 5 will play and improvise on each of the songs selected. Students in grades 3-4 will participate vocally in addition to playing bells and recorders. All students will also participate in an African drum circle utilizing newly acquired djembes. 

The final project will be an informal concert in the garden area. Most of the instruction will take place in the garden area behind the school. During breaks, students will be able to do some gardening while listening to a variety of jazz styles.

BMS and BHS

Bourne Middle School and Bourne High School will be offering the following programs, Tuesday through Thursday, 8 to 11 a.m., from July 11 to Aug. 4:

Playmaking Workshop

For rising grade 7 through grade 9 students. Price is $400.

In this workshop, students will explore the world of theater through improvisation, acting, writing, scene creation and adaptations. Students will work together to develop original characters and stories for the stage, while continuing to explore the elements of acting and playwriting. 

Students who love to act, write, create stories or learn about theater in general are encouraged to attend. No previous theater experience is necessary. The workshop will end with a showcase for families.

Musical Theater Workshop

For rising grade 8 through grade 12 students. Price is $400. 

In four short weeks, participants in this course will enjoy singing and dancing their way through all aspects of musical production. In addition to song and dance, students will learn about costuming, make-up, set design and set construction while collaborating on a musical revue. Participants, as well as their families, will enjoy a culminating performance to demonstrate their talents.
