LITTLETON – The Town of Littleton and Littleton Board of Health wish to inform the community about a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in the state, and share mitigation strategies to curtail the virus’s spread.
COVID-19 levels detected in wastewater in the region, a leading predictor of how case counts trend, have risen in recent weeks. Two new COVID-19 subvariants — called BA.2.12 and BA.2.12.1 – are considered more contagious than earlier variants and are responsible for most new positive cases.
The Board of Health asks residents to take the following precautions:
- Make sure you are up-to-date on vaccinations and boosters for the COVID-19 virus to, at minimum, reduce the severity of the virus if/when contracted. This is especially important for those age 50 and older.
- Complete rapid tests before gathering with family and friends
- Limit the size of private indoor gatherings and encourage guests to wear masks
- Wear a well-fitting N95 or KN95 mask in all indoor public places
- Practice physical distancing
- Activate the “Exposure Notification” app on your smartphone for an alert when you’ve been exposed to or are a close contact of someone who has contracted the virus
“The new rise in COVID-19 cases is a reminder that we are not out of the woods quite yet,” Board of Health Chair Kevin Baker said. “We ask residents to continue to protect themselves and their loved ones, and take a few precautionary steps to stop the spread.”
