Undertones to Perform in Gold Medal Showcase Sunday
MEDWAY — Principal John Murray is pleased to announce that Medway High School band and choir students performed and received medals at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Choral and Concert Festivals this past weekend.
The statewide festival was held April 1-3 at various high schools across the state. Approximately 100 bands and orchestra school ensembles and 80 chorus ensembles participated in this year’s event.
From Medway High School, the Concert Band, Overtones choral ensemble and Undertones choral ensemble performed in the festival. The Concert Band performed on Friday, April 1 at Hopkinton Middle School and the choral ensembles performed on Saturday, April 2 at Westboro High School.
The groups performed three pieces of repertoire for three adjudicators who then scored the ensembles against a rubric of standards. After the performance, the ensemble received a private clinic with one of the adjudicators and was awarded a medal of participation, merit, bronze, silver or gold.
The Medway High School Concert Band received a bronze medal, the Overtones received a silver medal and the Undertones received a gold medal.
“Congratulations to our Concert Band, Overtones and Undertones on their performances and well-deserved recognitions over the weekend,” said MHS Choir Director Ashley Nelson-Oneschuk. “A special congratulations to the Undertones, who will perform at the Gold Medal Showcase this weekend. This is an incredible achievement and opportunity for the ensemble, and we encourage community members to attend the performance and show their support for our student vocalists.”
