HULL — Superintendent Judith Kuehn is pleased to announce that students at Hull’s Memorial Middle School recently participated in the Town of Scituate St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The event is considered the largest St. Patrick’s Day parade on the South Shore. A total of 13 middle school students who are members of the school’s Green Team participated, along with grade 6 teacher and team advisor Heather Weber.
Using the “green” theme of St. Patrick’s Day, the students made a banner and signs to show local communities how the team has an vested interest in protecting the environment and promoting more sustainable ways of living.
“The students were able to show all who attended the parade that the younger generation really does care about the world around them, and they were an excellent representation of our school and town,” Weber said. “Everyone had a lot of fun, and many spectators cheered for us in solidarity.”
The Memorial Middle School is one of nearly 200 schools in the state that participates in the Green Team program (along with Hull High School). Green Team is an interactive educational program that empowers students and teachers to help the environment through waste reduction, recycling, composting, energy conservation and pollution prevention. It is presented by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
The group at MMS has organized several events to promote environmental causes, including a bottle and can collection drive to raise money for Hull Seaside Animal Rescue.
