CANTON — Superintendent Derek Folan, Principal Jeff Sperling and Performing Arts Coordinator Catherine Eckersley are pleased to report that two Canton High School students participated in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association’s All-State Concert recently.
Held at Symphony Hall in Boston on Saturday, March 5, the concert featured students from across the state performing in Chorus, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Symphonic Band.
CHS students Atlas Curran-Barker and Antoine Aoun performed as part of the All-State Chorus.
Students who score high enough in Senior Districts Festivals are recommended to audition for the All-State concert. They sent in virtual auditions in January, and both Curran-Barker and Aoun were chosen to participate after their second auditions.
The chorus was made up of 175 talented students from across Massachusetts who followed a similar audition process. They sang five songs under the direction of conductor Dr. Arianne Abela from Amherst College.
Aoun had a featured solo in one of the pieces, which was in Arabic. He plans to further his education with an interest in international studies.
Curran Barker is the first junior in Canton history to make the festival. He also participates in the contemporary music club.
Curran-Barker and Aoun are both members of Tri-M and the a cappella club.
“Atlas and Antoine are both very talented, but more importantly they are very dedicated and hard-working, and they are certainly deserving of participating in the All-State Concert,” Coordinator Eckersley said. “Canton High School and our Performing Arts Department were well represented at the concert alongside some of the very best student musicians in the entire state, and we congratulate Atlas and Antoine for all they have accomplished.”
