PLAINVILLE — Town Administrator Brian Noble and the Plainville Board of Selectmen are pleased to announce that Acting Fire Chief Richard Ball has officially been appointed as the next chief of the Plainville Fire Department.

Chief Ball was appointed as Fire Chief at the Select Board meeting on Monday, Feb. 28.

“The Town of Plainville and the Board of Selectmen are pleased to officially appoint Richard Ball as the next chief of the Plainville Fire Department,” Town Administrator Noble said. “Chief Ball has done an exemplary job serving as the department’s acting fire chief for the past several months and we are confident he will continue his great work in leading the department as its next chief.”

Chief Ball has over 20 years of experience in the fire service. This includes having served as an EMT for 21 years and a paramedic for over 17 years. He joined the Plainville Fire Department in 2006.

Chief Ball was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in January 2010 and served as the Deputy Fire Chief for the past 6 and a half years before assuming the role of Acting Chief in May 2021.

While serving as the Deputy Fire Chief, Ball developed the department’s hiring processes, internal promotional processes for acting positions, online scheduling and implemented several internal operations efficiencies. Upon becoming Acting Chief, Ball also helped lead the Plainville community throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic overseeing the department’s emergency management response.

While with the Plainville Fire Department, Chief Ball also served as a SAFE instructor for 12 years and the department’s training officer for five years while running the call department.

Chief Ball has a bachelor’s degree in fire science and graduated from Massachusetts Fire Academy Chief Fire Officer (CFO) as a member of the Class of 2017.
