CANTON — Interim Superintendent Derek Folan, Athletic Director Danny Erickson and Canton High School Principal Jeff Sperling are pleased to recognize Kiara Cerruti, a senior on the Canton High School girls basketball team, who recently achieved two milestones in her high school basketball career.
In February, Cerruti surpassed the 1,000th point milestone, as well as became the program’s all-time leading scorer. She was recognized on Tuesday, Feb. 15 for her accomplishments and contributions to the program during the team’s Senior Night.
On Tuesday, Feb. 1, Cerruti scored nine points in the team’s 57-52 win over Attleboro High School, surpassing 1,000 points scored during her high school career. Cerruti is the second girls basketball player to score 1,000 points at CHS.
The CHS Visual Arts department and teacher Ed McDonough produced a video to recognize Cerruti following her 1,000th career point. The video features interviews with Kiara Cerruti; parents Brian and Helayne; brothers Hudson, Hunter and Logan; and Coach Jim Choquette.
On Friday, Feb. 11, Cerruti also became the program’s all-time leading scorer, passing the 1,057 point total achieved by Eileen Morneau, Class of 1996.
“We are so proud to have Kiara as a part of our basketball program, and she has certainly made her mark as part of this team,” Director Erickson said. “Congratulations to Kiara on these incredible career achievements.”
Cerruti has been a four-year starter for the CHS girls basketball program. As of Feb. 24, she is averaging 18.5 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals for the current season.
Cerruti is also a member of the CHS cross country team and girls tennis team.
