PETERBOROUGH —  ConVal Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Katherine Foecking are pleased to announce that Great Brook School’s Robotics Teams earned honors at their first competition of the year.

On Sunday, Feb. 13, the Boys’ Team and Girls’ Team competed in a competition that was part of the 2021-2022 Pitching In VEX IQ Challenge Tournament series at Jennie Blake Elementary School in Hill. Eighteen teams of students from New Hampshire schools participated.

The teams started preparing for the competition in October by designing, building and programming robots to compete in the 2021-2022 VEX IQ Pitching In Challenge competitions, with the goal of qualifying for the tournament championship.

The Girls’ Team placed third in the Robot Skills Challenge, and second in the autonomous component of this competition, in which the students programmed robots to perform tasks without remote-controlled input. The Girls’ Team placed ninth overall and the Boys’ Team placed 10th in the competition. Both teams qualified for the event finals.

As a result of their success, the Girls’ Team will participate in the state championship on Sunday, Feb. 20, in Manchester.

“A job well done to all the students, who worked together and used the skills that they learned during the past several months to excel during this competition. I wish the students good luck as they advance to the next round of competition,” Principal Foecking said.

The Robotics Club was launched in 2018. The club has 12 members and is open to students in Grades 5 through 8. Any student interested in joining the Robotics Club is asked to speak with Administrative Assistant Catrina Young in the main office.

Community members who are knowledgeable in VEX/Robotics and wish to help grow the program are encouraged to contact Principal Foecking at kfoecking@conval.edu.
