BOXBOROUGH – Boxborough Police wish to report that the Department, with the assistance of mutual aid partners and specially-trained regional and state agencies, responded to a mental-health call on Thursday morning in which a person barricaded themself inside their home and threatened to harm themselves.
Police received a request for a well-being check for a resident at about 10 a.m. on Thursday. Based on information provided, Boxborough Officers and Boxborough Fire Department cordoned off a section of Hill Road, which runs from Liberty Square Road to Massachusetts Avenue, and evacuated surrounding homes out of an abundance of caution. The resident was determined to be the lone occupant at the time.
A Boxborough Police Detective with experience in high-risk situations was able to connect with the resident via telephone. Through further discussion, the Detective successfully convinced the occupant to leave the home at about 11:30 a.m.
Boxborough Police officers took the resident into protective custody without incident. The resident will be connected with appropriate social service and mental health agencies. Following a search of the home, Boxborough Police removed a rifle.
The Boxborough Police Department wishes to thank the Boxborough Fire Department, and Littleton and Harvard Police Departments for their assistance at the scene, and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) and Massachusetts State Police STOP Team for their guidance in bringing this call to a successful conclusion.
