MANSFIELD — Superintendent Teresa Murphy and Mansfield High School Principal Timothy Tichacek are pleased to announce that the school’s entrepreneurship program has chosen to donate $1,300 from their fall program to the Mansfield Animal Shelter.
Each semester, Mansfield High School Entrepreneurship students run a small business in class to learn the ins and outs of becoming entrepreneurs. Since the inception of this small business project, students have donated over $13,300 to local charities and organizations, while also funding future semesters of entrepreneurship students to complete the same project.
This fall, students successfully ran a small business selling products to raise money for the community. These products included:
- Buzz Balm: Honey-flavored lip balm, $3
- Candles: Natural soy wax candles in 4-ounce mason jars, scented with pure essential oils, $5
- Magnet Sets: Three magnets made with 1-inch wood circles, in a variety of designs, $5
- Ornaments: Holiday- and school-themed ornaments heat-pressed onto natural wood slices and sealed, $5
“The entrepreneurship program is a great way for students to develop business skills through first-hand experience,” Principal Tichacek said. “We are thrilled that through the success of the program students have been able to come together and give back to the community in meaningful ways.”
This year students chose to donate $1,300 of the proceeds to the Mansfield Animal Shelter. They also donated $200 of microloans to aspiring entrepreneurs in Burkina Faso, Colombia, Kenya and Sierra Leone via Kiva.org, a website that allows users to crowdfund loans to people in need around the world.
“We are always looking for diverse programs to offer to our students, and the skills they learn through the entrepreneurship program are an amazing asset to their high school education and beyond,” Superintendent Murphy said.
