WHITMAN — Superintendent Jeffrey Szymaniak and Whitman-Hanson Regional High School art instructor Christina Maher are pleased to announce that junior Eryka Ingram has earned a Silver Key as part of this year’s Scholastic Art Awards.
Ingram’s photograph, “Blue,” was among 7,499 entries considered for awards in Massachusetts this year.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running recognition program for creative teens. Students in grades 7-12 (ages 13 and up) can apply in 28 categories of art and writing. All entries are considered for Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention, as well as other recognitions.
The Massachusetts region of the program is sponsored by the Boston Globe and run by the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
“We are thrilled that Eryka has been selected to receive Silver Key recognition as part of the highly prestigious Scholastic Art Awards,” Maher said. “She has a very strong drive and passion for her work, and we all congratulate her on her latest achievement.”
Last year, Ingram was one of four WHRHS artists to have their work displayed at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset as part of the annual Blue Ribbon Members Exhibit. As part of the special program, called “Inspired I,” each student took part in 12 three-hour classes run by guest artists and coordinated by printmaker and SSAC Education Coordinator Tony Pilla and Executive Director Patrice Maye.
