STONEHAM — Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department arrested a man last night after investigators identified him as the suspect in two separate incidents in recent weeks — a break-in at a restaurant and an armed robbery at a gas station.
ROBINSON HIRT, AGE 19, OF STONEHAM was arrested and charged with:
- Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime for a Felony
- Malicious Destruction of Property Under $1,200
- Larceny Under $1,200
- Robbery, Armed and Masked
- Assault With a Dangerous Weapon
- Assault and Battery
On Monday, Jan. 10, at 6:15 a.m., Stoneham Police responded to Five Guys, 67 Main St., for a report of a break-in. Upon arrival, officers initiated an on-scene investigation through which they determined that the suspect entered through a rear door.
Through their investigation, Stoneham Police determined that the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and a blue jacket from inside the store, and had left a can of spray paint on the counter. Additionally, he allegedly cut the wires to the cash register with a blade and spray painted the lenses of the store’s surveillance cameras.
The suspect was described as a thin, white male with dark hair and wearing a navy blue jacket, black pants, and black boots.
On Monday, Jan. 24, Stoneham Police responded to the Mobil station at 250 Main St. for a report of robbery that had occurred the night before. Through an on-scene investigation, police determined that a man matching the description from the Jan. 10 break-in entered the store and went behind the counter to take cigarettes. The clerk and the suspect became engaged in a physical altercation, which resulted in the suspect — later identified as HIRT — pointing a firearm at the clerk.
At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Jan. 24, an officer on patrol in Stoneham Square came upon two individuals involved in a fight. The officer stopped and separated the two individuals. The officer observed that one individual, later determined to be HIRT, matched the physical description of the individual in the robbery and break-in, and was wearing the same clothes as the suspect in the armed robbery.
Stoneham Police subsequently obtained a search warrant for HIRT’S home, which resulted in investigators locating the blue jacket stolen from Five Guys, a replica .357 revolver BB gun, the blue jacket the suspect wore in both the break-in and the armed robbery, a blade like the one used to cut wires in the break-in. and HIRT’S phone, which had the same screensaver as the phone seen on surveillance video from the break-in.
HIRT was taken into custody without incident at his home on Thursday, Jan. 27, as a result of the investigation. He was held without bail pending his arraignment in Woburn District Court, which was expected today.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
