TAUNTON — Superintendent John Cabral is pleased to report that the Taunton Public Schools has received an FY22 Math Acceleration Academies Grant from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The FY22 Math Acceleration Academies Grant was a competitive grant awarded to select school districts throughout the state to fund the implementation of math-focused Acceleration Academies for students in Grades 3 to 10.
Taunton Public Schools was awarded $480,000 to support the implementation of acceleration academies within the district.
With the use of grant funds, Taunton Public Schools will host math instruction Acceleration Academies for the district’s elementary, middle, and high schools during February and April break. Approximately 650 students throughout the district will be selected to participate with class sizes of 10 to 12 students to allow for individualized instruction.
The academies will target select standards and offer project-based learning opportunities that are rigorous and grade-level specific. Students who need additional support will receive instruction on targeted standards and be afforded various scaffolds to support their learning.
The academies will also include an hour of an enrichment-related activity each day, and breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation will also be offered to students via abbreviated routes.
“Taunton Public Schools is committed to ensuring that all of our students receive the academic resources needed to grow their knowledge and skills,” Superintendent Cabral said. “With the funds from this grant, we will be able to host acceleration academies for the first time within our district that are aimed at providing engaging and hands-on experiences that are beneficial to our students’ learning.”
Additional information about Taunton Public Schools’ Acceleration Academies will be shared once finalized.
