TAUNTON — Superintendent John Cabral and DECA Advisor Jesse MacPhail are pleased to announce that the Taunton High School DECA chapter was recently awarded the DECA Membership Campaign for the 2021-2022 school year.
As part of the membership campaign recognition, Taunton High School DECA will receive a pennant, flag and plaque, and are eligible to register up to three DECA members to participate in the Thrive Academy at this year’s International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
Each year, DECA recognizes leading chapters that have built strong local programs focused on serving an exceptional number of members, advisors, alumni and business partners. These chapters and individuals dedicate their year to academic and career preparation, community service projects, membership recruitment, school outreach activities and other DECA-related endeavors. The chapter’s advisor and student leaders have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to DECA.
DECA’s membership campaign is designed to help chapters grow by making the DECA experience available to more student members, keeping alumni involved and engaging professional members such as administrators, teachers, parents and business partners.
“We are very proud of our chapter and the work that the students have been doing to stay connected this year. Since COVID, there has been a significant challenge for students to maintain the connections that were established prior, and returning to in-person DECA as well as other activities has been extremely important,” said MacPhail.
Of the 3,000 DECA chapters, only 450 chapters earned recognition in DECA’s chapter campaigns and only 775 chapters earned recognition in DECA’s membership campaign.
The results were announced on decadirect.org.
Taunton Public Schools is also excited to announce its Middle School DECA program for all three middle schools. The goal of the program is to familiarize students with DECA and establish opportunities for students to connect with the high school’s DECA chapter officers. The program will act as a “bridging system” that can connect students to a viable program as well as begin a connection for their future transition to the high school.
