SOUTH EASTON — Superintendent Luis Lopes is pleased to share that Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School will host its inaugural Multicultural Holiday Celebration this week.
WHEN:
Thursday, Dec. 16 from 6-8 p.m.
WHERE:
Student Commons at Southeastern Regional, 250 Foundry St., South Easton
WHAT:
The Multicultural Holiday Celebration will feature student displays and presentations about Christmas, Chinese New Year, Diwali, Hanukkah and Three Kings Day. The presentation will include research students completed about the origin, traditions, symbols and significant events for each holiday.
There will also be a special presentation about the African-American holiday Kwanzaa by Brockton resident Jaki Jones.
Additionally, the Culinary Arts department will have desserts for guests to take home and sample, and the Video and Performing Arts department will compile videos and music for guests to enjoy.
The purpose of the event is to help foster a greater understanding and appreciation — through holidays — of the various cultures that make up the school and greater community.
“The holiday celebration will showcase some of the other holidays that are celebrated in addition to Christmas,” Guidance Counselor Gwen Nauls said. “Our shared experiences bring us together and allow us to teach and learn from each other.”
Added Principal Leslie Weckesser, “Southeastern continues to celebrate the multicultural community that it serves. Hosting this event allows us to celebrate and learn from each other in interactive and creative ways.”
The event is hosted by Southeastern’s Equity, Diversity, and Social Justice Council.
The event is free and open to the public.
