BOURNE — Superintendent Kerri Ann Quinlan-Zhou and principal Amy Cetner are pleased to announce that the Bourne High School music department will be hosting former band students later this month for a special concert alongside current band members.
On Saturday, Dec. 18 beginning at 7 p.m., the Alumni Band Concert will be held in the Beth Bourne Auditorium at BHS.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bourne High band students in the Classes of 2020 and 2021 never had the chance to perform in their concerts. To make up for this, BHS music teacher Lisa Fournier decided to invite all band alumni to participate in this concert with current band members.
There are currently 40 confirmed alumni who will be participating in the concert.
“The pandemic interfered with so many of the school traditions that we were all used to, and it’s important that we do what we can to make up for that. That’s why we wanted to invite former band students back to the school so they can play on the BHS stage one final time,” Fournier said. “While we are still taking precautions against COVID-19, we are fortunate to be able to hold this concert for our students, their families and the entire Bourne community.”
The first half of the concert will feature standard Concert Band repertoire, while the second half will feature holiday standards.
The concert is free and open to the public.
The Bourne High School band consists of students in grades 9-12.
This will be the second concert for BHS music students in as many weeks. On Thursday, Dec. 9, the school hosted a Winter Chorus Concert that was the first performance for chorus students in two years.
“Our high school music students, like so many other students throughout the school, have worked hard during the pandemic and it’s wonderful to see them finally being able to take the stage and show off their talents for the community,” Principal Cetner said. “We look forward to welcoming back former band students, and having so many of them confirmed for this concert shows just how much they care about their school and the positive impression the band had on them.”
