CHELMSFORD — Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department is investigating a reported armed robbery that took place last evening in town.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, Chelmsford Police were dispatched to the New World Gas Station at 273 Littleton Road for the report of a robbery.
Upon arrival, police spoke to the clerk at the store who said that moments earlier a male wearing a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants and a black mask approached him with a machete in his hand and demanded he place the money from the cash register into a grocery bag.
The clerk complied with the demand and the male reportedly left the store on foot with a quantity of cash. He was observed by the clerk running across the street towards the parking lot located in front of 270 Littleton Road, toward a black sedan. The clerk observed the sedan heading inbound toward the center of town.
The male is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, but no other description is available at this time.
There were no other customers in the store at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.
