WAKEFIELD — Superintendent of Schools Douglas Lyons and Wakefield Memorial High School Principal Amy McLeod would like to notify the community of a fake email that is circulating online that purports to be from Principal McLeod.
On Thursday afternoon, Principal McLeod was contacted by a colleague from a nearby district alerting her to an email that claimed Wakefield Public Schools was closing down the district’s bus system due to a shooting that purportedly occurred in Lexington.
There has been no such incident in the Town of Lexington. The Wakefield Public School’s bus system continues to operate normally, and Principal McLeod did not author the email that purports to be from her. The email is a fabrication.
“The details contained in this fake email that has appeared online are in no way true or accurate, but they have the potential to cause extreme alarm so I would like to address and debunk them immediately,” said Superintendent Lyons. “We have consulted with our colleagues in Lexington and would like to assure all students, families, staff and community members that Wakefield Public Schools operations are safe and continuing as usual.”
Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to contact Wakefield Public Schools at: superintendent@wpsk12.org.
