Several Fall Teams Win Conference Championships, Four ORR Students Named Conference MVPs
MATTAPOISETT — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson, Old Rochester Regional High School Principal Mike Devoll and Athletic Director Bill Tilden wish to congratulate student-athletes at Old Rochester Regional High School on a successful fall sports season.
“It was great to see our fall athletic teams back in action as the pandemic put many sports on hold last year,” Tilden said. “Congratulations to all of our student-athletes on a very successful fall season.”
Old Rochester Regional High School has completed an outstanding fall athletic season as a member of the South Coast Conference (SCC) and Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
Within the SCC, the Golf, Volleyball, Football, Boys Cross Country and Girls Cross Country won championships.
Each of Old Rochester’s fall athletic teams qualified for the inaugural MIAA State Tournament, also earning at least one home state tournament game and winning at least one game in teams’ respective State Tournaments.
The Football team played its final game on Thanksgiving Day, ending the season with a win and earning the South Coast Conference Blue Division title.
The Girls Cross Country team and Boys Cross Country sophomore Tyler Young qualified for and competed in the All-State Championship meet.
The Girls Varsity Volleyball team won the Division 3 State Championship, the first in program history and the school’s first State Championship in any sport since 2017.
Individually, Old Rochester also had four student-athletes named SCC Most Valuable Players this season: Markus Pierre, Golf; Hannah Whalley, Cross Country; Maggie Brogioli, Volleyball; and Maggie Nailor, Field Hockey. Additionally, ORR golfers Philip le Gassick and Markus Pierre received medals for low scores.
The Unified Basketball team finished its season with multiple victories. A total of 19 partners and athletes competing together in the fall season and beyond into a postseason jamboree.
“Success in athletics is just one of the many ways that Old Rochester promotes the development of well-rounded students,” Principal Devoll stated. “We continue to be proud of the accomplishments of all of our students and the opportunities that our high school provides students along the South Coast.”
“This was an exciting season for our Bulldogs athletic programs and all of our student fans and community members,” Superintendent Nelson said. “It was great to see high turnouts at our athletic events and we’ve enjoyed seeing the continued support of all of our student-athletes throughout the season.”
