TAUNTON – Superintendent John Cabral and Executive Director of Human Resources Dr. Cheryl Butts are pleased to announce that Amy Moynihan has been named as Taunton Public Schools’ new Director of Special Education.
Moynihan will officially assume her new role on Monday, Nov. 29. She replaces former Director of Special Education Judy Mulrooney.
“Amy has deep ties to the Taunton Public Schools community and the city through her many years of working at our schools and residing in our community,” Superintendent Cabral said. “She is extremely well-versed in special education and committed to meeting all the needs of our students. I am confident that she will excel in this position and continue to grow and improve upon our exemplary special education program.”
In this role, she will serve as the Director of the Special Education Department overseeing the Special Education Coordinators, Psychologists, Special Educators and all related service providers. Moynihan will also monitor all special education programming and services for the district.
Moynihan has worked within the district for over 25 years. Prior to this position, Moynihan served as the district’s Special Education Coordinator supporting students with disabilities academically, socially and emotionally, and their families. During her time as the district’s Special Education Coordinator, she is most proud of her work in assisting with the implementation of a co-teaching model for grades K-12, which allowed for Taunton Public Schools students with disabilities (SWD) to be educated in the least restrictive setting with their typical peers. She also worked with administrators and staff at the middle schools to implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in all middle schools within the district to enhance social and emotional development.
Prior to serving as the district’s Special Education Coordinator, Moynihan worked as an eighth-grade special education teacher for TPS and as a special education teacher at Saint Vincent’s Residential Home in Fall River.
Moynihan holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership from Bridgewater State University and a master’s degree in special education from Simmons University. She is also certified as a middle school principal, special education administrator and more.
