MATTAPOISETT — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson, Old Rochester Regional High School Principal Mike Devoll and Athletic Director Bill Tilden are pleased to announce that the ORRHS girls volleyball team won its first-ever state championship over the weekend.
The #4 seed Old Rochester Regional Bulldogs varsity volleyball team played the #2 seed Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins in the Division 3 State Championship on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Bridgewater-Raynham High School.
“Congratulations to both teams on an excellent game and exciting end to the volleyball season,” Superintendent Nelson said. “Our volleyball program has been fortunate to have a lot of support from the communities all season, and it was incredible to see how many students, parents, teachers and community members traveled to support the Bulldogs in their win on Saturday.”
The Bulldogs won in four sets (20-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21). They finished out their season 13-0 and in first place in the South Coast League, and with a 23-2 record overall.
“This was a remarkable season for our fall teams with each team qualifying for their state tournament,” Tilden said. “This is an especially meaningful win for our volleyball team as it is their first ever state championship and pays homage to all of the hard work and commitment of our players and coaches through the years.”
The ORRHS 2021 varsity volleyball team includes: senior Captains Kenna Soucy, Maggie Brogioli and Sally Butler; seniors Emma Thorell, Tavish Nunes and Sydnee Pires; juniors Ella Soutter, Emma Van Ness, Emma Peterson, Failenn Fitzpatrick, Charlotte Sisson and Reagan Rock; sophomore Kamryn Rodrigues; and freshmen Molly Sisson, Aubrie Letourneau, Cami Van Ness and Caroline Brogioli.
The team is coached by Varsity Head Coach Jimmy Oliveira, Assistant Varsity Coach Ryan Grace and JV Coach/Assistant Varsity Coach Allyson Collette.
“Our Bulldogs volleyball team received a lot of support from the Old Rochester communities, including signs around town, a police escort to the State Championship game and more, and we are so thankful for the support of the players and coaches this fall,” Principal Devoll said. “This team demonstrated the heart of a champion by trailing in both the semifinal and final before ultimately prevailing in the end.”
