GEORGETOWN — Acting Chief Chuck Savage is pleased to announce that Santa Claus will be visiting town next month for the Georgetown Fire Department’s 26th annual Santa Tour.
WHEN:
Sunday, Dec. 5., beginning at 10:30 a.m.
WHERE:
The tour will start at the Byfield Town border on North Street. Click here for the parade route and schedule.
Information about how to monitor the progress of the parade will be posted live to the event’s Facebook page.
WHAT:
Santa has visited Georgetown since the mid-1990s, riding on a fire engine accompanied by a fleet of modern Georgetown Fire Department vehicles and greeting children and their parents.
Members of the Fire Department will be joined by a representative from the Georgetown Police Department. A vehicle from the U.S. Marine Corps also will be on display as a show of gratitude for the Fire Department’s longstanding support of its Toys for Tots initiative.
Georgetown Fire began collecting toys to benefit Toys for Tots in 2000. Over the years, the Department has collected more than 60,000 toys for children who might otherwise go without a gift on Christmas. Last year, firefighters collected 3,600 toys.
As Santa passes by, residents will have the opportunity to donate new, unwrapped toys, which will be collected in trailers accompanying the tour, to Toys for Tots.
“The Santa Tour has become a beloved part of the holiday season in Georgetown, and our residents have shown a tremendous generosity over the years,” Acting Chief Savage said. “Seeing our community come together once again to support a great cause is something that we look forward to all year. We encourage all to keep an eye and ear out for Santa’s arrival, and to donate a toy if they are able to.”
