RAYNHAM — Chief Bryan LaCivita reports that the Raynham Fire Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on I-495 this morning.
At approximately 7:20 a.m., Raynham Fire Engine 2 and Rescue 1 were dispatched to I-495 northbound in the area just south of Route 138 for a report of a serious, multi-vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, rescuers found five vehicles involved in the crash, including two tractor trailers, two pickup trucks and an SUV. One victim, identified as the probable driver of one of the pickup trucks, was found in the roadway and the driver of the other pickup was found trapped inside their vehicle.
Brewster Ambulance alongside Massachusetts State Police worked to render aid and transport the victim found in the roadway, an adult male, to Morton Hospital with serious injuries.
Firefighters worked for approximately 45 minutes to extricate the trapped driver, using specialized equipment, including hydraulic rescue tools. However, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drivers of the tractor trailers and SUV were evaluated by EMS on the scene and declined transportation to an area hospital.
All lanes of I-495 northbound were temporarily closed during the emergency response and all lanes have since been reopened.
The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Bristol District Attorney’s Office.
