NORTH ATTLEBORO — Deputy Chief Michael Chabot reports that the North Attleboro Fire Department extinguished a fire at the Royal Park Apartment complex last night.
On Thursday, Nov. 4, at approximately 10:45 p.m., North Attleboro Fire received reports of two units on fire at building six of the Royal Park Apartment complex, 65 East Washington St.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames showing from two units’ porches on the second and third floors. A second alarm was struck and crews from Attleboro, Plainville, Foxboro and Cumberland, Rhode Island, responded to assist at the scene. Station coverage was provided by the Mansfield and Cumberland, Rhode Island fire departments.
Firefighters conducted an aggressive exterior attack and prevented flames from spreading to surrounding units and the roof. The fire was deemed under control within approximately a half-hour. After overhauling the units and checking the roof, crews left the scene around 1:30 a.m.
All occupants of the two units were able to safely make it outside prior to firefighters’ arrival. The three residents of the third-floor unit will be displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The residents in the second-floor unit were not displaced and were able to remain in the apartment once the fire was extinguished.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the North Attleboro Fire Department.
“These residents are extremely fortunate that this incident occurred earlier in the night while they were still awake, giving them the opportunity to escape and quickly report the fire to us,” Deputy Chief Chabot said. “Thanks to their quick actions, we were able to stop the fire from spreading further into additional units and onto the roof.”
