ROCKPORT — Chief John Horvath and the Rockport Police Department would like to inform the community that a warming center has been opened in response to the Nor’Easter and resulting power outages.
The warming center is located at the Community House, 58 Broadway.
It will remain open until further notice to ensure residents without other options can keep warm and have a chance to keep their electronic devices charged.
As of 3 p.m., 2,418 of the 4,980 National Grid electricity customers in Rockport were without power, according to National Grid’s Power Outage Map.
For the health and safety of all, masks or face coverings will be required while in the Community House, regardless of vaccination status.
The Rockport Police Department, Fire Department, Department of Public Works, EMS, and Forest Fire Warden are working together to address storm-related conditions in town, and coordinating with National Grid to assist the utility’s efforts to restore power.
“I want to invite the community to use this resource to stay warm and ensure electronic devices are charged in case they are needed in an emergency,” said Chief Horvath. “I also want to thank Rockport residents and business owners for their patience and cooperation as we collectively recover from this storm.”
Anyone with questions about the warming center should call the Community House at 978-546-2573 or the Rockport Police Department at 978-546-1212.
