TAUNTON — Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School Superintendent-Director Dr. Alexandre Magalhaes and Taunton Fire Chief Timothy Bradshaw report that fire personnel responded to a motor vehicle fire at the school this afternoon.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, school officials learned of a vehicle fire that had started in the school parking lot in a car belonging to a student. The Taunton Fire Department was immediately notified and responded to the scene within minutes.
Upon arrival firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which is believed to have started due to a mechanical issue. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to any other vehicles in the parking lot.
There was no disruption to the school day, and no injuries were reported.
Members of the Taunton Police Department responded to the scene to provide assistance.
“I want to thank the extremely fast response of the fire and police departments as they handled this incident,” Superintendent Magalhaes said. “The fire was extinguished within minutes and we are thankful that there were no injuries as a result.”
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Taunton Fire Department.
