BRIDGEWATER — Bridgewater Police Chief Christopher D. Delmonte reports earlier this afternoon that plain clothes Bridgewater Police officers observed a subject wanted on firearms and other charges enter a house on Vernon Street. The subject was known to police to have a history of violent crimes, including previous unlawful possession of firearms charges from various jurisdictions.
Based on this information, uniformed officers arrived a short time later and established a perimeter while detectives continued to gather intelligence and information. A search warrant was also issued for the address.
Given the subject’s violent past and nature of the outstanding arrest warrant, the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) SWAT team was requested while nearby streets were temporarily detoured and a reverse-911 message was sent to neighboring residences.
After several attempts to contact the subject believed to be inside the house, new information was obtained by police indicating the subject was no longer there.
At that time, the detours were removed and the area was cleared of police resources. A second reverse-911 was also issued to neighboring residences informing them of the same.
“I would like to thank the neighboring police agencies and SEMLEC SWAT for the support today,” Chief Delmonte said. “We also appreciate the understanding of the residents nearby who were inconvenienced by the detours and safety precautions taken in the area.”
