MATTAPOISETT — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson wishes to provide an update regarding the boil water order, which has officially been lifted in the Town of Marion.
As of today, Oct. 19, the boil water order for the Town of Marion, which includes the Sippican School, has been lifted. This is following sampling of the water earlier this week that was free from total coliform and E. coli.
The lifting of the boil water order was approved by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. Following the lifting of the order, none of the districts within the Old Rochester Schools are currently impacted by a boil water order. The Sippican School was the last remaining school in the district impacted by the order, and can now resume normal operations regarding water consumption and usage.
Old Rochester Regional High School, Old Rochester Regional Junior High School, Center School and Old Hammondtown School had their orders lifted along with the Town of Mattapoisett’s order being lifted last Friday, Oct. 15.
The Rochester Memorial School uses well water rather than public water and was therefore never affected by the boil water order. Water being used in the building remained safe during the entirety of the situation.
Marion families within the district should note that it is important to follow the steps outlined on the state’s website for coming out of a boil water order. The section entitled “What to do after the Order is lifted” includes important steps regarding flushing the pipes in your home or business before resuming consumption of town water.
“We know that the past few weeks have been difficult, and we appreciate the patience and cooperation of the families within our district who were impacted by this situation. This includes those in Marion, as well as those in Mattapoisett whose boil water order was lifted late last week,” Superintendent Nelson said. “As always, should any member of our district have questions or concerns they are encouraged to contact my office or their building’s principal.”
