For immediate release

ESSEX – Chief Paul Francis reports that the Essex Police Department has performed an administrative review regarding a single-vehicle crash involving a department cruiser earlier this month.

At about 1 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, an Essex Police officer on routine patrol traveling southbound on Conomo Point Road toward Route 133 lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The cruiser was significantly damaged. The officer was not injured, though was relieved of duty as a precaution, and sent home for the remainder of their shift. The officer has resumed regular duty.

Essex Police has concluded an administrative review of the crash in accordance with department policies and procedures, rules and regulations, as well as in line with the collective bargaining agreement.

As this is a personnel matter, Essex Police will not release the name of the officer.
