EASTON — Chief Justin Alexander would like to invite members of the media to a training event tomorrow to see Easton Fire paramedics practice lifesaving skills in a new state-of-the-art medical facility.
WHEN:
Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m.
WHERE:
PC Institute for Medical Education, LLC., 277 Pleasant St., 6th Floor, Fall River
WHAT:
The Easton Fire Department is partnering with PC Institute for Medical Education to bring medical school-level training to the department’s paramedics. Through the partnership, Easton paramedics will be training regularly in a state-of-the-art simulation lab and on donated tissue. These training experiences will prepare EFD’s paramedics to perform high-risk, low-frequency skills that are often required under extreme pressure.
EFD will be the first fire department in the region to introduce this format of paramedic training. The department is also working with PC Institute for Medical Education to develop an annual membership for agencies to provide paramedic training in a novel way.
Wednesday’s event will feature a tour of the facility and the chance to see Easton Fire paramedics practice their skills. Attendees, with the assistance of paramedics, will also be able to try their hand at some paramedic skills on the life-like simulation manikins.
Easton Fire will also introduce its new ultrasound diagnostic equipment on Wednesday. This equipment can help provide critical information to paramedics regarding a patient’s diagnosis and can assist with transportation decisions and how best to manage prehospital care. Ultrasound images can also be transmitted to a hospital’s emergency department for evaluation prior to the patient’s arrival. EFD will be one of only a few agencies in the region to have this capability.
PC Institute for Medical Education, LLC., is a 20,000 square foot state-of-the-art medical-based educational facility. The facility features hands-on Bioskills labs, simulation training and a conference center.
