TAUNTON — Superintendent-Director Dr. Alexandre Magalhaes and Practical Nurse Program Director Lisa Melo are pleased to announce that Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School has been ranked as the top Practical Nursing Program in Massachusetts by the website Nursing Schools Almanac.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition and extremely proud of our staff and students for this accomplishment,” Superintendent Magalhaes said. “Their dedication and resilience throughout their time at Bristol-Plymouth is remarkable, especially considering all they have been through over the past two years.”

For their 2021 rankings of LPN programs in the state, the research team at Nursing Schools Almanac compiled an extensive database of student performance on the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Aspiring practical nurses in the United States must pass this examination before they may practice nursing.

The Nursing Schools Almanac calculated each program’s NCLEX-PN pass rate among first-time test-takers. This is the standard program assessment metric reported by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. When possible, first-time NCLEX-PN pass rates were calculated over a period of time, typically the past decade of student performance.

LPN programs were then rated accordingly.

Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School’s Practical Nursing Program finished at the top of the list of programs. The school’s NCLEX-PN pass rate among first-time test takers is listed at 99.1 percent. On average there are 42 students who graduate annually in this department, according to data from 2011-2022.

The top 10 schools on the list are as follows:

  1. Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School
  2. Southeastern Technical Institute
  3. Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School
  4. Blue Hills Regional Technical School
  5. Northern Essex Community College
  6. North Shore Community College
  7. Greater Lowell Technical High School
  8. Assabet Valley Regional Technical School
  9. Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School
  10. Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School

“There are many outstanding schools represented on this list, and to be recognized as the top Practical Nursing Program in Massachusetts is truly an honor,” Director Melo said. “We will continue to support our students with the highest quality education possible and prepare future nursing students with the skills they need to thrive and succeed upon graduation.”
