FAIRFIELD — Chief Robert Kalamaras reports that the Fairfield Police Department is investigating a drowning that occurred at Lake Hills Beach Sunday morning.
At approximately 8:40 a.m., Fairfield Police received a 911 call for a missing swimmer at Lake Hills Beach #1, located off of Tahmore Drive.
The caller reported that he and a friend had gone swimming but that his friend had not surfaced for approximately three minutes.
Dive teams from the Fairfield Police and Fire Departments and the Bridgeport Police Department entered the water multiple times in an attempt to locate the swimmer. At approximately 12:45 p.m., crews recovered the victim’s body approximately 50 feet from the shore and in approximately five-and-a-half feet of water.
The victim, Karlis Eltermanis, age 35, of Bridgeport was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chief Kalamaras would like to offer his condolences on behalf of the Fairfield Police Department to Eltermanis’s family and loved ones.
Fairfield Police would also like to thank all divisions and agencies who responded to assist in the search and recovery efforts, including Fairfield Police Patrol, Detective Bureau and Dive Team, Fairfield Fire Department personnel and Dive Team, American Medical Response (AMR) personnel and the Bridgeport Police Department Dive Team.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau and Office of the Medical Examiner.
